what is a good price to pay for a new '06 1000 DS at a dealer? what about a new '08 1000S DS? I am very pleased with everything I learned about the bike but pricing info seems hard to find.

An '08 would be an 1100s. Invoice on mine was just over $14k OTD with factory panniers, heated grips and handguards.

Here's my very unofficial price guide for 1000DS multi. The range represents variation based on miles, condition and mods/accessories, and is assumed to represent the 90% interval (90% of bikes should fall within the range):

03-04 (all non-S) ~ $5500-7500

05-06 (non-S) ~ $7000-9000

05-06 (S) ~ $8000-10000

I've been quoted $13400 for an 08 S
11550 for a new 06 S
8500 for a 07 standard with 7000 miles, but new bike warranty from a dealer.

I think the important point to note here is that if you do buy something like a new '06, you will lose big the moment you drive off the lot. Now that's true of just about any new vehicle purchase, but it is even more true about new bikes that are 2 model years old. Now, this doesn't matter if you are going to keep the bike for at least 3-4 years. If that's your plan, then you might want to pay extra for the piece of mind that would come with a new bike and warranty. Otherwise, look for a used bike and let someone else take the depreciation hit.

These are good points and info. I have moved around the forum today, getting ideas, and now I think I will dig a little deeper and get the '08 1100. I will go to the dealer tomorrow and try to get a fair price for both of us. It was good to learn that this version is being discontinued after the model year. I can use that fact. I hope to write a note early next week about another multi in circulation!

Hey - is $740 per year right for a year of full coverage?

All depends on your stats.

I pay $250 a year for full coverage including comp and collision.

I'm also 37, have a car, house and second bike insured with State Farm.

I'd like your stats. It costs to live in New York state and an urban area. No accidents or tickets.

Yeah, my rates are double that and I think I've got a pretty good deal with State Farm.

I picked up my black '08 1100s yesterday and am pleased with it. I ended up paying $11,000 for the bike and also ordered panniers, luggage liners, hypermotard pegs, glove box net, and centerstand.

I was disappointed to have to pay $700+ for insurance but that's the price for me where I live. I look forward to learning and sharing ideas with my new Ducati buds here at the forum.

That's a killer price for an '08 "S". I paid 12.5k for my '05. Confused

OK, You can feel really good now. I paid $15,600 OTD for my black 08 1100s with hard saddlebags. AND I pay over600/yr for Insurance through progressive. I knew I should have never looked in here!

I feel a little funny telling the price because I see that it is somewhat lower than any others that I have seen. I lucked out. Apparently multistradas are not desired in this area and they weren't selling well. Mine was in stock. They have a new red '06 1000DS on the floor and a new red '07 1100 (not S) in a crate. Go get'em.
