I am trying to decide on a bike. i've been riding dirt bikes for 20 years and new to street bikes. probably will mostly use for shorter trips, 1-5 hrs, and not so much for long multi-day trips. I like the idea of a more upright riding position, probably because i'm used to riding dirt bikes, but i wonder if the st4s would be more comfortable. also, i wonder if the st4s would be more comfortable for a passenger. there is still something that keeps pulling me to the ms. any thoughts/advice? thanks |

most guys knowing ST2/4 vs MS seem to agree, that the riding position on the MS is more comfortable, the passenger seems to be sliding against the driver at the ST-models a lot. Although the ST4 seems to have some more power if you like to torture the engine (above 7000 Upm).
I don't really know what the term dirtbike refers to, I assume it could be something, that germans call enduro?
Easy handling just like sitting on a bicycle, spontanous answer to the throttle and stability like on a sportsbike, but way too sorry for that beauty to run her through the dirt (she feels as if she could do it without any problem on "easy" dirt...)??
What, you don't have one yet? Go for a test-ride, first the ST4 then your future bike
welcome to the multistrada community!! (sooner or later)

The MS was my first full time street bike for the very same reason you are looking at it. I rode dirt bikes for 25 years. I have ridden dozens of bikes to find something I really like. I almost bought the BMW 1150GS when I stumbled across the multistrada. I rode it, and 2000 miles later, I can't get the grin off my face. For someone who rides dirt bikes, it has the same 'feel.' I ride with other sport riders, and when we do the bike exchange for a few miles (everybody wants to ride the multi), I can't keep up with the pack on a pure sport bike. It is so different from what I am used to (maybe in time). But when I get back on my multi, I can stay with the pack - and when it gets real twisty - I can stay ahead of them! As far as distance, I have put in a few 400 very twisty mile days (very comfortable), and am planning a 3 day trip this summer. Most of my rides are from 1-5 hours long. Riding 2 up is no problem as well. Nobody but you can know what bike is 'right' for you, but being a long time dirt rider, I wouldn't trade the MS for anything! It's awesome. |
