Re: 1200 S Touring Vs. Concours 14
I own a 2010 Muti 1200 S Touring so I lean toward the Ducati a bit. I will say that I got to ride a fiends C1400 and felt comfortable riding it a fairly quick pace right away. Usually it takes time for me to feel a bike out enought to get comfy enought to wick it up, but the Connie felt good right ...

Re: HELP ME ! 2004 1000ds
Ok, 6,000 miles is the interval for the valve lash check and oil change. This will cost you $400-$500.

Re: Which seat woud you buy?
Sargent seat for me, I did thousand of miles on my 04 with a Sargent.
You used to be able to send your stock seat to Sargent and have it custom made, I'm not sure if that is still available.
Sargent customized my 91 ST1100 seat by taking out the slope to the tank and moving the passenger hump back 1 ...

Re: Valve Guide Issues on the 1000 & 1100
Just because a VIN# falls into a range doesn't mean the guides are bad. I've got an 04 with 35,000+ miles and no guide problems.

Re: Buying New vs Used
I buy all my bikes used, I like to buy them after someone else has fixed them all up. Got my 04 Ducati with 8,000 miles after the previous owner installed the DP airbox, ECU and Termignoni exhaust, and the DP hard luggage.

Vino,
NO, for your first real bike find a used Suzuki SV650, ride it this season as much and as far as you can. It's a fantasitc bike for beginners, yet I know plenty of riders with 20+ years of riding who love there SV.
It has plenty of power but is not scary fast, kind of like the Multi, then ...

My 04 MTS has 20,000+ miles and no valve guide problems. The service manager at my dealership said their is no serial number break, that the valve guide problem isn't a problem wiht the guides or the material the guides are made from but a valve shiming issue at the factory. He said if I haven't had ...

Re: Should I buy a used bike first?
I don't know why first time buyers even ask for advice on their first purchase. I've been riding street bikes since 82, and have given lots of advice to first time buyers, like learn in the dirt first, buy a used bike of smaller displacement, etc. I don't believe anyone has ever heeded my advice ...

20,000 miles, got the stock 04 side stand replaced with a new 05 style no charge under warranty. Had a small oil leak on the front cylinder cam cover, fixed no charge under warranty. Got the oil cooler lines that didn't leak replaced for free under warranty.
