I agree with Zooki. Plus the belts are changed every 15k miles or 2 years, so the intermitant service will be less. You might look for an independent shop that has a Duc trained mechanic. There are a couple like that here in Austin.
Good luck. They are incredibly fun bikes to ride.

I kinda like both. Day rides on the weekends while you plan the next trip, whether it is 3 days or 2 weeks. Just being on the bike and letting the pains and pressure of the job drain away.

I agree with everyone else. You have a lot of margin to get it in great shape and still be in the bike at a very good price. Buy it and go to work. Good luck.

Re: Buying first Multi
The one on this site for sale at $8,900 is an incredible price. It is an '07 1100s with 1,900 miles. If you can afford it, that should be your bike. Fly to IL and ride it home. I have done that now with 3 bikes I have bought over the past 4 years. I love my '08 1100s.

Re: Second guessing my Multi dream
Clancy,
You have me beat. I got my '08 1100s in Feb. and have put 4k miles on it. And that is only weekend rides in the Hill Country. You got yours just last month if I remember.
This is a great bike and does a lot of things well. Good to tour on and a blast in the twisties. Mine is getting great ...

The gel seat is better than OEM. Mine had it. I got a sale price deal on my RMC seat, so went with it, as had his seat on my former bike - BMW K1200GT.

My 1100s is comfortable on the straight highway. Well, it is comfortable now that I have a Rick Mayer Cycle custom seat on it. The stock seats have limited padding.

Re: Another noob wanna be
Have fun this weekend. A friend of mine had a Tiger 800. He ended up selling after a year. Suspension had a lot of travel, but he felt it was pretty stiff and the windshield was really bad for him. He know has a KTM 990 Supermoto. But I have another friend that has one and loves it. Bikes as you ...

In Feb. I paid $8k for an '08 1100s with 11k miles. Had what this one has plus the hard cases and a top case and a couple other goodies. If you can find the factory bags, a used set with the mounting brackets will probably set you back between $600-700 my guess.
Good luck.

You are on the right track - have to get the service dept. to play ball with you. Maybe a bottle of his/her favorite adult beverage. I have done that before to repay a "hook up".

Re: What's the final conclusion on tank problems
Leo,
That is my understanding from the Austin dealer on the tank swap out. You cannot walk out of the dealership with the new tank or the old, swollen tank.
I keep my tank full in the garage and ride it a couple times every week, so that fuel is moving thru the system on a regular basis. I know ...

Yes, that is the law firm website. But it gives the details and terms of the settlement. That was all I was getting at.
