Re: New Hyper Test Ride

I dont get it

i love Touring ...some days 300 km some 500, and often 800 plus..7 to 10 days of 5000km.
In those km are some straight roads , sweepers , off camber , decrease radius, down hill righthanders that open up into short straights that start again into more ribbons of asphalt ...

Re: 2012 Multistrada "Touring" No Panniers !!!!!!!

Sounds like your dealer is taking liberties and is trying to extract more cash.

If your bike has a plastic (not carbon) nose, the centre stand and the heated grips it is certainly a Touring and will have left the factory with the panniers.

I would have a word with the local importer and also with ...

Re: Maintenance & Reliability?

I think generally they are reliable, but... most people seem to suffer from one or two niggling faults that you should get sorted under warranty. A common ones is a poor rear brake and less common ones are warped front discs and problems with the keyless igntion / steering lock.

Re: Too soon? A 1200S for a second bike

Enjoy your new bike! And just take it easy until you get the hang of things. Coming from a 30hp bike to one with 100/150hp, one of the things you'll need to get used to is how far you need to look ahead when you open the throttle!

The 1200S turns in easier than the Suzuki S40 did, which is a ...

Re: Too soon? A 1200S for a second bike

Thanks nav18tor, that's good advice. Perhaps a BMW F650gs (71 hp) would be a good alternative. Or the f800 with dual disc brakes up front. It looks like they are about half the cost.

Anytime I read about BMWs though it sounds like they need a lot of maintenance.

Also I've read about the G650gs ...

Re: difference between standard & touring

I've just honestly never felt the need to change my suspension settings during a ride once I've got the bike set up the way I like it. Or, it could be that it just wasn't worth the trouble to me. Which would come back to your point, and the value you're willing to give that ability to push a button ...

Re: difference between standard & touring

It's funny to me how attitudes change quickly when something like DES comes along. It's suddenly a hardship to take 10 seconds to turn a knob rather than push a button!

I don't think it's quite as simple as that. The big deal about the DES is that you can change it on the move , I can't recall ...

Re: difference between standard & touring

The standard (aka base) model has no DES, this is the major difference. So no push button suspension (but you can adjust the suspension manually and there is a knob you can twist to quickly change the rear preload without tools - but not when riding).

There is a base + ABS, again with no DES.

The ...

Re: Multistrada 1200S for new rider

I would get yourself a 2nd hand Multistrada 620, then move on to the 1200S when you have some experience under your belt.

Just about any bike is much faster than most cars, and it takes a while to get your brain used to the acceleration / deceleration and different cornering technique.

You will ...

Re: Known issues and Reliability

Generally reliability is very good, with only scheduled servicing required.

The 1000 suffered from more 'common' problems than the 1100 the worst of these was a problem with 'soft' valve guides (some 2003-2006 bikes). There is a list of engine numbers around somewhere on the forum that details ...
