I bought a used bike, not knowing how the bike was broken in by the first owner. I got a good deal and I'm happy with my bike.
I don't see how different a dealer demo bike is. At least you have a warranty to cover any issues in the near future.

Re: I am, afterall, a cheap bastard...
I have searched online for promotional deals on leftover '08s but haven't really found any. Have any of you seen or heard of any killer deals lately at stores motivated to make more room for the '09s?
Here in SoCal, there are a couple of dealerships with leftover '07 Multis still stickered at ...

I think an MTS 620 is more appropriate for you.MaddHatterAZ wrote: Edit: I am looking at the 2008 DUCATI Multistrada 1100 S
Better contols, cheaper to insure, and you have more room to upgrade when your skills improve.

Re: Is the Multistrada a really good buy ?
The Multistrada is a good buy because of:
(a) Ducati commaraderie = the Ducatista community, heritage, and loyalty has no match. Only Harley Davidson has the same type of community, but mainly in the U.S. Ducati is more worldwide.
(b) Uniqueness = yes, you can get similar (and better) sport ...

Re: Typical maintenance costs on a MTs in the states..
So, expect an oil+filter change every 3000 miles = about $100 at a dealership, or $50 DIY with synthetic oil.
Every 6000 miles = valve adjustment, oil change, and maintenance check: about $600 at a dealership, plus costs of new parts such as belts, spark plugs, etc. Also, touring tires last approx ...

Re: WTB: Centerstand for '04 Multi
I have a used one that I haven't installed.
It's a bit scuffed a the sides from the previous owner's enthusiastic riding. I can paint it for you, if you want it all black. No handle; just the centerstand.
I can ship it to you for $100. I can take pics if you'd like...

I have a Multi with DP gel seat and Eagle Touring windshield.
I've riden my Multi from L.A to San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Phoenix; and for all those trips, the only thing that bothered me was my right forearm/wrist due to the prolonged continuous use of the throttle.

Re: Buying New vs Used
I buy all my bikes used, I like to buy them after someone else has fixed them all up.
That's what I do as well.
I got my '04 MTS1000 earlier this year with only 3300 miles for $7100. It had the DP top case and side panniers, Termi pipes and ECU, DP heat grips, DP hand guards, and crankcase ...

I thought that the '06 1000 has been more sought after than the '07 1100 just because of the dry clutch...

Also, prices on eBay may be cheaper because the auction price does not include tax, title, license, and delivery.
Keeping prices low on eBay (from a reliable source) ensures a sale, but you can't negotiate it any more than you would trying to get a bike OTD in a dealership.
