I've located a local '06 620 Dark, with 4,300 miles. The dealer is asking $6,000, which I suspect is a bit high for a 3 year old bike that retailed new at $7,500 (from what I've read, the Dark version is somewhat stripped down).

Is that price reasonable assuming good condition?

I'm searching for a bike that will be used mostly for daily commuting, but also weekend 2-up riding - what can I expect from this motor when 2-up? Several reviews I've read state that the engine is plenty strong, but I know what can happen to engine power on a bike when you double it's payload.

This weekend I'm going to try out an '07 1100S I found. It has 600 miles, dealer's asking $10,000. I believe that bike retailed at $14,500 when new, so the price seems in proportion to it's age/mileage. I'd like to hear opinions on whether anyone prefers the 620 or the 1100, and why. Many prefer the 650 V-Strom over the 1000 - does the 620 M/S have strengths to recommend it over the 1100?

shameless plug: take a train down to arlington and buy my MTS620D for 5K. Six is high for a stock MTS620D. plus you will be due for service in less than 2k miles.

quite a few threads on this topic if you search. my personal experience with both bikes is that when I had a passenger on the 620 - generally I would just run the bike at a higher RPM (than solo) to get the response I wanted. It was still loads of fun, making the 620 engine work hard is a joy. to be honest my riders enjoyed my 620 more, my 1000 so far has just frightened them silly (even when taking it 'easy').

if you've ridden a 620, your decision will be clear when you test the 1100.

Blue book for the dark is just a hair over $5,800. The dark has one front rotor instead of two and a flat black paint. That's the only difference between it and other 620's. I've never felt I needed more power but I wouldn't turn it down if someone offered it to me.

I will say that I've enjoyed really working the engine in the canyons which I coudn't ever do with my larger displacement bikes before this.

Mines for sale by the way but I live on the other side of the county. I'm not selling it because I want a bigger bike but rather because I have recently become taken by the Triumph Thruxton. Good luck in your search.

Thanks to both of you.
I have to admit to being smitten by the 270 degree engine of the Triumph Scrambler myself.
Arlington, I'm going to try both bikes out before I decide. If I choose the 620, I'll get in touch.

I paid 3k for a 06 620 dark with 2500mi at xmas. had scratches on one side from a low speed fall, but really only cosmetic. I knew the seller- so trust was not an issue. he had it posted for $3600- I got the friend price. 6k isounds pretty high. They're hard to find in my area- but demand seems low. My dealer has a couple low milage 620's at near blue book- and I see 1000's and 1100's sit on craigslist for extended periods at seemingly reasonable prices.

I have a MTS 620 Dark and it is perfect for what you are going to use it, I am not too sure about 2 uo since I do not deal with that.

I also have a Monster S4rs Tri and that is a blast but the Multi still the one I ride the most because it is so convenient and predictable.

Awesome bike, the 1100 it is a lot of bike for everyday bike and commute in traffic.
