Ok I have seen and rode the 1200. I ride OK, but even with that in mind I still cannot ride my 1100s to it full potental. So why would I want a 1200? Because it is larger faster, and has a punney panner on the right side? I would love to have a 1200, but I am sure I would not be riding it to it's full potental. I like my 1100s...... I am saving a bunch of money not poping for a 1200. I think my 1100s is lighter. It has plenty of power. It does not look as good, but then again if you are spending 15-20k it better look better. Insurance is higher. And all those electronics! I like to wrench on my 1100. I am not sure i could afford a 1200s.

I think i am going to try to ride this 1100s for a while. I think it is enough for me. I may spring for a 1200s when it is in the 8k range, or maybe not if my 1100s is still spot on for me.

Sounds like you're fighting an acute case of "new-itis". I wouldn't trade my 1100 for a 1200 for free, and that's the truth. Nothing against the 1200 it's on paper a more awesome bike, and 'better' in many ways (ABS, power, non stretchy tank, the list goes on). I just like aircooled, open clutch, wasp-like looks, that it does not have. As for power, the 1100/1000 has more than enough punch to get me where I need to go, and not too much that the bike gets ahead of me. In other words, it's just right. And, it's still relatively new to me.

(edit) I know this is basically what you were saying, but shiny/new can't be topped by much and always gets me thinking too. What twists me up were the new monsters with the 1100evo, but still not enough to pull me away. Now if they make an enduro with that 1100evo motor, that could push me over the edge... :D

The 1200 is whizz bang cool and a great ride. That being said I am not the least bit tempted to buy one. I love my 1000. It does everything I need it to do and I don't have to worry nearly as much about electronic failures.

I rode the 1200 before i had my 1000.

We (the royal we) that is my partner and i test rode the 1200 when we where looking to part with our Yamaha FJR1300.
We both loved the bike but there was no way we could afford one.

So after alot of head scratching, i remembered when i used to ride with a couple of Multistradas in the Uk. I remembered how well the went. I was not keen then on the style then.

Long story short i swopped my FJR for a 2006 1000ds.
I just love it, enen like the looks now, should have swopped a long time ago.
As for the 1200, yes it looks good but i will not be in a hurry to get one now.
