If you're interested in buying a Multistrada, this is the place to post questions about the bike.

Just watched my 04 Aprilia Caponord burn to a crisp

Considering Multistrada as replacement

Has anybody owned both Caponord and Multistrada that can give me a comparison?

I'm sorry that I can't help you.

But I also can't stop wondering how your caponord would burn to a crisp. Are those electronics even worse then the multi?

No, the electrics are exactly the same standard as Ducati, same issue's with sidestand switches, clocks ..............

Not sure what caused my fire, its not common but I suspect is was an electrical fault

Loved the Aprilia but I have never owned a Ducati and I need one :D

I had an 03 Caponord a few years back and loved it apart from the poor build quality (corossion on most of the fasteners and wheel rims). The ride is far plusher and the engine isa lot smother on the Capo but then it is not as sporty as the Multi. Little things like the clocks misting is a common theme, however just looking at the Multi makes the difference to me, I love the trellis frame and lush red paint!

My Caponord was an 04 and apart from the nipples on the spokes, the build quality was OK
What let the bike down was the bean counters at Aprilia who under-specced on wiring, junctions, petrol connectors and other stuff

The engine is a "peach" and the ride is very comfortable but then mine burned out

Got to try a Multistrada, all I can afford is the 1000DS which is fine as its also what I want

The bigest thing you will notice on the Multi is the engine. They do not like 3000rpm. Below and above is fine, but acelerating through the 3000 mark nearly shakes the thing apart. The sweet spot is between 3800 and 5500 on the 1100. Keep it in this range on the open road and it is fantastic, the traction out of corners never fails to make me grin.

Congrats - Yes the Black ones are faster, but don't tell everyone!

Make sure you check it over very carefully. Every one I have bought(4)
has had faults. The latest is an 05 with just 5k and dealer serviced/mot'd only 500 miles previously. It had a badly leaking fork seal,F****d head- race bearings and of course Incorrectly tensioned belts!
