Hello All-

Hopefully will be a Ducati owner soon. Looking at a 2006 Multistrada with 24k mi.

Downsides are- No service history, rough idle and speedometer not working. Current owner claims no oil consumption.

How worried should I be about this bike? The price is right but I want to make sure I'm not stepping into a nightmare.

I've had alot of bikes in the past and would not be afraid to do the valve adjustment and belts myself. What other major service items could be due?

Thanks

For me, no service history no sale. May be a good deal but you never know. Good luck

You can probably find a clean '04 with similar miles & good service history for $6K or even less. How much cheaper is tbe bike in question?

Unless you are mechanically inclined or a good tinkerer, I'd also be wary of a bike with that mileage and no service history at all. The non-working speedometer would also concern me, as that possibly can get into some expense, depending on the cause.

I had my '10 at the dealers recently for the 15k service. They pointed out to me another 1200 that was there also for a 15k. They said the owner had done no maintenace -at all- to the bike. I mean it still had the original factory oil in it. He'd just put gas in it and tires on it, and lubed the chain. On one hand, maybe a testimony to how sturdy the engines are, but on the other, I'm not sure I'd want to be the second owner of that bike.

Owner is willing to do an even trade with me on my 05 Triumph Sprint. I'm looking for something more upright and he's looking for something more sporty. Blue book on my sprint is $5k

Agreed. $5000 seems to be full price for that bike and no bargain at all considering the questions you have.

For reference, a nice looking "S" just popped up on this board for $5800:

If this "S" is as advertised, that seems like a nice deal.
