But I found a 2006 that has been sitting for over a year. Outside under a tarp with no fuel in the tanks. No prep done for storage. 40k on the clocks, 1 owner all service done at the dealer up to 34k. Had tank replaced... Looks like I can purchase for $2500. Is it worth the risk? I mean it scares me spitless... but I rather like projects like this. I have been looking for a multi... and well I like rescues but I dont like failing ;)

For certain it needs a proper service. It was running rough before storage. I assume plugs valves belts, all liquids etc.

HELP!!!!

PS. Hi I am new here! Its alot to ask but I need your wisdom!

You can do a lot of fixing if your starting point is only $2,500. It's good that it has no fuel in it. Change all filters, fluids, belts and check valves. Can you do that stuff yourself? If you can, buy it.

I agree with everyone else. You have a lot of margin to get it in great shape and still be in the bike at a very good price. Buy it and go to work. Good luck.

Sadly negotiations failed. I had expected 2500 would buy the bike but in the end the owner will rather see it rot in his patio than drop from his 3k asking. Sadly at 3k it is to close to other more complete bikes once I put a conservative 1500 in it. Oh well :) Win some lose some!

Thanks for the advice here!

Let's see, $3k + $1500 = $4500. You are right, you can buy more complete bikes for around that price.

Funny thing is, I happen to know of a very fine example  : http://www.multistrada.net/forum/viewto ... 784#246784
