I am looking at an 04 miltistrada this weekend and I am interested in knowing the costs and frequency of required maintenance. The seller is asking 7800.00 and I am weighing the lower purchase cost of a used bike against the expected higher maintenance costs vs the 07 bike.

How many miles are on the bike? The big services are at 6,000 and 12,000. Check with your local dealer on what they charge for those services. If you're a little bit handy you can handle some of the work. I'd say a Ducati is going to be more expensive to maintain than some of the Japanese models, but not tons more. Obviously the more you ride and the more miles you put on the bike (whether its used or new) the more frequently you will need to have maintenance done. Valve clearance checks and belt replacements are probably the most critical things and need to be done more frequently than on some other models.
